Great Independent Businesses in Birmingham

Birmingham is our home, and we are proud of our roots and the community here.
One of the main things we love about our city is how it is full of thriving small independent businesses and as a small business ourselves, we like to champion the locals and shop with as many independents as we can.

Over the years we’ve grown to love many Birmingham based businesses, so we’ve pulled together a list of our personal favourites below:

Indigo Wholefoods: A 100% organic supermarket based in the heart of Moseley. They stock a huge selection of organic foods, drinks, beauty products, supplements and household products. Any natural health supplements or vitamins you may need you can find here too. It’s a one stop shop if you are looking for items that are kinder to the planet and more natural.
- 50/52 St Mary’s Row, B13 8JG

I AM YOGI: One of Birmingham’s best kept secrets is the I AM YOGA studio based in Moseley Park. The studio is a wooden cabin with a glass front, so you feel like you are doing your Yoga session in surrounded by nature. They offer a range of different yoga classes that you can do in the cabin or at home (but in person you get free tea!) so there is something for everyone which is why our team love it.
- Moseley Park & Pool, 93B Alcester Road, B13 8DD

Seventh Circle: Svnth Crcl are an independent Art Gallery based in Moseley and if you are interested in art and interiors then we definitely recommend taking a look. The art is chosen on a rotating basis so there is always something new to see and they host regular events so you can go along for a drink and talk to the artists themselves, the owners of the gallery are really cool people too.
- 10 St Mary’s Row, B13 8JG

Tokyo Toys: We’re big anime fans here at MF and Tokyo Toys is every anime lovers dream. They specialise in anime and manga merchandise but also stock other gaming and movie merch too. Its rare to find a store on the high street that is dedicated to stocking these types of items so we have to take a trip there every so often.
- 31 Corporation Street, B2 4LS

The Jungle Club: If you are looking to add some more greenery to your life then we would recommend our favourite plant shop, The Jungle Club. They sell everything plant related including house plants, succulents and rare tropical plants and taking a trip to their store is actually like entering the jungle.
 - 134 Alcester Road, B13 8EE

Peacer: One of the only pizza shops we know that sell pizza by the slice! Peacer is fuss free and their spicy pizza with hot honey is a fire 10 10.
- 4 Woodbridge Road, B13 8EJ

Col8 Store: Our old neighbour Col8 sells some of the best vintage finds in Birmingham. Think Dickies, Carhartt, Arc'teryx and Supreme amongst other big brand names. If you visit Col8 let them know we sent you, they might just hook you up.
- 27 Woodbridge road, B13 8EH

The Mockingbird Cinema: We love film and The Mockingbird Cinema based in the custard factory is somewhere you have to check out if you love movies too. The Mockingbird is a bit of a different cinema experience, you can still catch all the big movies that are released but they also run their own events and show some more unusual movies that you probably wouldn’t get to see on the big screen anywhere else. Some past events include World Cup screenings, Anime movie screenings, sign-a-long screenings and Lord of the Rings movie marathons.
- The Custard Factory, Mockingbird House, Gibb St, B9 4AA

I Go Vegan: The BEST vegan ‘junkfood’ spot in Birmingham. That’s all there is to say really! It’s a tiny little place so they only do delivery or takeaway but it is a must if you’re looking for something delicious. Our go to order is the Messi burger and salt and pepper chips.
- 3 Formans Road, B11 4AT

There are so many more amazing independents around Birmingham we couldn’t fit them all into this little round-up, so make sure you come explore our city, make some memories and support our small businesses.
